Dangerous cell phones, dangerous ringtones

Nowadays, you can find any kind of ringtones you want in the World Wide Web. You can download them from the dedicated portals or p2p programs. You can also make one yourself using some of the programs available online. The problem is that such a cornucopia and availability of ringtones and cell phones can also lead to some problems. There are issues connected with privacy, for instance, when it comes to making pictures by the use of a cell phone. In the past, it was visible if one wanted to make a picture (he had a huge camera with him). But nowadays, the cameras are available in almost all new cell phones. It is possible to make a picture everywhere and it is really difficult to control it. This can lead to the leak of important information from the company, for instance. Similarly, there are some hazards when it comes to ringtones. Once upon a time, I saw a young man playing with his cell phone at the edge of the zebra crossing with the lights. The lights gave a specific sound when the light was green or red. The prank, the guy made was terrifying. He recorded the ‘you can walk’ sound on his mobile and installed it as a ringtone. An old woman approached the zebra crossing and she suddenly heard the ‘you can walk’ sound and started crossing the street. The light was red and one of the cars almost hit the lady. The ringtone could cause an accident and even kill that old lady. The point is that you really need to think twice before installing some ‘funny’ or ‘unique’ ringtone on your mobile. Remember! Ringtones can be dangerous if used improperly!

Thanks to ringtones and some applications you can make your own cell phone distinguishable among other cells. It is often very important to personalize your cell so that it met your requirements. So for instance, a linguist or a traveler would like to have the best dictionaries and translators, while a salesperson would probably want to download a good calculator to his cell. The same goes with the ringtones. The choice you make when it comes to the ringtones influences the way you are perceived by others and makes you in a way unique. Some people say that it is easy to judge someone by his clothes. Even though you shouldn’t judge book by its cover, the same thing is about your cell phone and the ringtones you use. You can surely tell what taste someone has by the ringtone he has in his cell. Imagine a person who has a Britney Spears song ringtone and a wallpaper with hearts and teddy bears. Isn’t she your daughter? She probably is… or at least you can say that she is young and likes pop music. The point is that nowadays you should always think before you download a ringtone that might be perceived as inappropriate to your boss for example.

True-tone ringtones are saved as standard WAV music. They have a similar quality as the popular MP3 files, so they gain more and more popularity. Unfortunately, only a handful of mobile phones can play the ringtone, but hopefully that will soon change for the better.

At the beginning we have to download the software we needed to comply with any tone. The first program is “Goldwave” which can be found on the page - www.goldwave.com. Another necessary tool is a program to convert, or reduce “volume” file. It is a “Sox GUI”, which you can download for example, from www.infonokia.pl
Get Started …
Edit tones

Once you started the Goldwave program, open the track, you want to compile to the true ring-tone. Then you have to select the section previously opened file, from which we want to create a ring tone. The exact time of the song can be found on the bottom – it is necessary to save it, because it will be needed at the end. The ring tone should not be longer than 40 seconds.

According to our taste we can set the tone increasing volume. So it begins quietly, and then becomes increasingly louder. To perform this operation, you should select the option from the Edit -> Marker -> Set … (You can use the key combination “Shift + E”). In the top menu, select Effect -> Volume -> Fade In … a table will come out, and when you click OK - the beginning of the song will be partially silenced.

Now it’s time to save the track. Going to File -> Save Selection As …, name the file and save in Wave format (*. wav) and IMA ADPCM settings 44.100 kHz; bits: 4; Stereo.
